Bio Anthro Lab Zoo Trip

Please post or comment on this page to arrange carpools, share information and ask questions about the Primate Behavior and Diversity lab activity.

This lab activity has two parts: 1) direct behavioral observations of living primates, and 2) research on characteristics and behavior of four different primate species. Most of this lab activity will be done on your own time. We discussed the schedule for completion (on the day we do “Primate Ecology and Behavior Studies” in lab) and the day you are not required to attend the lab during class (see the schedule).  See the labsheet for more information (password protected).

While a zoo visit is not required, it is highly recommended. Learn more about the San Francisco Zoo here.

There are some excellent websites to use for Primate ID research. Good starting places are:

* Primate Info Net – http://pin.primate.wisc.edu
* Animal Diversity Web –http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu
* Encylopedia of Life – http://eol.org/

You will usually get the best results if you search for the scientific name of the species.

  1. For March 2010, they have confirmed that San Francisco Zoo entry for my students who check in at the main front gate will be $12 (bring ID, they will check it against the list of names from my roll sheet).

  3. For October 2013, the San Francisco Zoo has said “Yes, we still offer the discount for college students who come on their own instead of a group. The price will be $14.00 for each student with proof of ID.” Students names will be checked against my lab roster.
